The Brewers Arms - South Petherton
The Brevers Arms is my nearest pub and is within easy staggering distance. A busy village pub with a good atmosphere. It's real strength is its constantly changing list of guest real ales, usually at least 3 on at any one time plus the regular beer which is Otter. The landlord Duncan keeps his cellar well which is probably why they are Somerset Camra pub of the year for 2009.
It has a decent outside sheltered area (for those who need a fag) and a pleasant garden.
Attached to the pub is "The Baker's Oven" restaurant which is very pleasant and does a good range of food. Food is also served in the bar and they have a take-away menu for pizzas, fish, curry of the day etc. There is a steak night every Tuesday and a curry night every Thursday. They also do pensioners special lunches on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The pub has beer and cider festivals on the bank holiday weekends in May and August.
On the weekends there is often "music" later on in the evenings which I find a bit loud and tend to exit before 8pm.
The wheelchair access is non existant to the bars and the restaurant, with steps in to them both, and there are no toilets for the disabled. The access to the outside area and garden is level. There is an accessible outside bar for the beer festivals.
